Ina computer network, managing information is usually a challenge formost entities. In an information system, the more the people andinformation, the more cumbersome and complex it becomes to deal withissues (Peterson& Davie, 2011). However, Robertson’s 10 principles can help inthe effective management of information in a computer network. Inthis assignment, the application of the Robertson’s 10 principlesin a computer network will be discussed.
Ina computer network, several computers can have separate information,which can make the management of information and communicationexceedingly difficult. For a computer network to be in a position tocommunicate effectively and capable of managing informationeffectively, there is a need of using the 10 principles of Robertson.According to one of the principles, it is critical to recognizecomplexity. This principle can be applied in a computer network sinceit argues that complexity should be dealt with by the application ofapproaches that are capable of recognizing and managing thecomplexity. In a computer network, some issues may emerge and seem socomplex however, through this principle, a computer network canapply new approaches that are capable of recognizing and managing thecomplex issues.
Robertsonalso proposes a principle, which indicates that strong leadershipthat tends to define a clear direction is critical for successfulinformation management. In a computer network, there is a need offollowing a clear direction that will lead to success. In order tohave this clear direction in a computer network, strong leadership iscritical in order to make communication effective and manageablewithin a computer network. Failure to having a strong leadership,individuals operating the computer systems may become unruly.Therefore, this principle is relevant to a computer network. On theother hand, business needs are usually diverse, when it comes to acomputer network however, these needs can be easily managed throughthe principle of prioritizing. Through prioritizing, it is easy tomanage the different business needs because one need is handled at atime, depending on the importance of the needs to the business.
Inmost cases, computer systems in a computer network may not be havingthe same information, which can make communication and management ofissues complex. Besides, each computer system may have its own smallactivity that it handles this may still lead to difficulty dealingwith issues. However, in a computer network, this situation can behandled by planning the small activities so as to address in parallelthe different needs and issues. This is critical to the computernetwork because there will be no complexity in dealing with differentminute and difficult issues therefore, the principle of planningmany small activities in addressing many issues and needs in parallelis applicable to a computer network. Another principle of Robertsonentails mitigating risks. In a computer network, different risks arebound to be present. In case these risks are left to accumulate,there is a probability that the risks may hinder the functioning ofthe computer systems. This implies that communication within thecomputer network will be hindered, which will derail the businessneeds. For instance, consider a computer network system that has therisk of being tampered with by hackers. Such a network shouldmitigate such a risk from occurring through using the necessaryprotective measures. However, in case such risk is not prevented, theentire network will not operate as desired. Hence, the riskmitigation principle is critical in a computer network.
Anotherprinciple proposed by Robertson entails that of communicatingextensively. Extensive communication within a network is remarkablycritical since it helps in ensuring that any information within thenetwork is shared at the right moment to the different systems(Zelkowitz,2009). In case the communication is not extensive, there is aprobability of having difficulty in dealing with problems within anetwork since problems will not be communicated and attended to atthe right time. Therefore, the principle of communicating extensivelyis necessary in a computer network. On the other hand, the otherprinciple that is applicable to a computer network is that ofdelivering a seamless user experience. Educating individuals in thepurpose and utilization of a disparate set of systems is cumbersomeand fruitless (Robertson, 2005). The underlying objective should bedelivering a seamless user experience, which hides the systems wherethe data is coming from. This implies that there should be a singlesign-on to all computer systems in a computer network.
Theprinciple of focusing on adoption also applies in a computer network.In a computer network, all users should actively participate inensuring that all key files are saved within the network. Besides,small changes in a network need to be implemented in parallel so thatthey can have an impact on the computer network. This underlies theprinciple of taking a journey of a thousand steps. In addition, theprinciple of selecting the first project carefully also applies to acomputer network. Selecting the initial project carefully in acomputer network is critical as it helps in building momentum for thefuture undertakings.
