In overall, the effectivenessof colleges depends on their capacity to produce graduates who are upto the task and prepared to address challenges in the contemporarybusiness environment. This paper will address the importance ofintegrating CSR in business education programs, capacity to addressthe major concerns raised by employers, and how to use the class toavoid being classified as unprofessional.

Integratingcorporate social responsibility in business education programs

Theissue of whether CSR considerations should be taught in formalbusiness education programs is controversial. In my view, there aretwo factors supporting the integration of CSR considerations intoformal education programs. First, schools are the best places wherefuture leaders are prepared and imparted with knowledge and skillsthat determine their competence in the real world. Assuming that allbusiness leaders pass through the formal education, teaching CSR inbusiness programs can provide the leaders to be with an opportunityto learn the best ways to identify and apply values.

Secondly,CSR is an important part of the business education programs becauseit inculcates ethical as well as moral values to the future leaders.This is an important step that can ensure that the decisions made bythe business leaders who have learned CSR considerations in schoolmake value-based decisions. In essence, values learned by studentsthrough the formal business programs can change their view of thingsfrom negative to positive, thus increasing their capacity to makedecisions that demonstrate social responsibility.

Organizationsmanaged by business leaders who have been taught CSR considerationsare likely to get two major benefits. First, the capacity of businessleaders to make value- based decisions reduces the need forregulatory oversight. This is because there is a high probabilitythat their managers will make ethical and moral decisions inoperations. Secondly, CSR skills imparted in business leaders reducetheir chances of engaging in unethical issues (such as fraud andcorruption), which in turn improve the brand image as well as thereputation of the organization.

This is an effective way of ensuring that students areprepared to address challenges facing organizations in thecontemporary business environment.

Usingthe class to avoid the unprofessional characterization

Thecourse content is an important tool that will help me in avoiding thenegative characteristics (such as being arrogant, poor communicationskills, and lack of ethics at workplace) that are associated with newhires. At first I will pay attention to the course content discussingabout effective communication skills. This will impart me withinterpersonal communication skills that will in turn help mecommunicate effectively with my coworkers. Effective communicationskills will also help me avoid inappropriate use of technology, suchas texting co-workers and spending too much time on social sites. Inaddition, I will pay attention to the course content that focuses onthe importance of CSR. The CSR section will equip me with thenecessary work ethics and avoid the risk of being characterized as anunprofessional new hire. In essence, the class will provide with asmooth transition to work experience.
