Theimportance of research cannot be understated as far as thecomprehension of the mechanics under which the varied real worldaspects follow is concerned. Recent times have seen increasedattention paid to the efficacy of the varied instruments, which areessentially the devices that are used in the collection of data andfacilitation of the measurement and observations of the variables ina study (Issel, 2014). The selection of instruments necessitatesimmense expertise as it must be ensured to be valid and extremelyreliable. A health-related question that has been used acrossdifferent cultural groups is “whatfactors determine a pap-smear test”.The use of this question was seen in the study detailed in thearticle “Patternand Factors Affecting Pap Smear Test in Nablus, A RetrospectiveStudy”,whichprimarily involved around 201 women who were visiting a clinic inWest bank Palestine (Musmar, 2004).

Asmuch as this survey concentrated primarily on Palestinian women, itis noted that the questions asked cut across the varied culturalgroups. On the same note, the survey included varied demographiccharacteristics that offered background information pertaining to theparticipants including marital status, age, employment status, levelsof income and even education levels. Further, it is well acknowledgedthat the clinic used in the research offers a pap test to every womanwho goes for gynecologic exam. Other questions asked include the useof contraception, genital infections, menstrual periods, as well asfamily cancer history. This introduces an element of uniformity forindividuals within these areas irrespective of their culturalinclinations. Indeed, the fact that the clinic carries out a pap testto every woman who goes there means that there is an element ofuniformity for all irrespective of their cultural inclinations. Theseare characteristics that, while there may be individual differences, tie together different cultural and linguistic groups. In essence, the modification of the research questions to enable the researchresults to be useful across the cultural divide was undoubtedlysufficient in enhancing is functionality (Griffith, et al.,2006).
