Linguistics:Lyrics Analysis of “Let it Go” by Demi Lovato
Thestudy of language is attributed to its beauty of linguistics, especially when it comes to its usage in literature. The study oflanguage has been limited to a humanistic approach, but people shouldconcentrate a lot to ensure that they carry out the study of languagein a more scientific perspective. However, although there arehumanistic approaches to language, the study of the formal rules orproperties of language has become of interest to many people. Thestudy of language using the two methods is valid, and neither of themcompromises the validity of the other (Gleason 1961).

Whatthe author`s objective is in the lyrics of the songThe author of the song attempts to paint a picture of a girl who isliving with much fear in her life. The purpose of the lyricrepetition was to ensure that the song stuck in the ears of thelisteners. Similarly, the song lyrics have a deeper meaning, and anumber of people have different opinions about the meaning of thewords. Nevertheless, from the writer’s perspective, the lyrics ofthe song are meant to depict the significance of togetherness throughhonorable leadership. The author’s lyrics have different meanings, for example, it is crucial that parents and guardians protect theirdaughters so that they do not live in fear, and they can overcomefear. Moreover, the author also depicts that there is depressionamong the girls. The author illustrates that the only way to overcomedepression is through self-motivation and inspiration. It is,therefore, clear that the song is about overcoming one`s fears.
Frozensnow is a linguistic choice that the author wants to associate withthe environment that such people she is referring to experience. Theenvironment that people live in is crucial because it shapes how theylive with one another and shape their way of life. The author todefine the culture and society that people are living uses some otherlinguistic choices. It shows that the society has a significantinfluence on an individual’s life because sometimes it can changepeople’s life.
Reasonsthe authors used linguistics in the lyrics of the song. Linguisticshas three broad aspects that include the language in context, theword form and the expression meaning. The use of linguistics in thepoem has been used to analyze the human language in terms ofunderstanding and related to meanings of gestures and sounds.Linguistics also helps in resolving ambiguity and assigning differentmeanings.
Whatdo you think this was? The use ofsnow depicts the situation that the individuals in reference arealive. The environment directly affects their living conditions and away of life. The use of the words" slams the door behind me"is an indication that one can put away all the fears in life torealize their purpose in life.
Useof complete sentences (subject predicate): Thesentence “you will not find me the past is behind me” is anexample of subject plus predicate.
Useof sentence fragments
Cannothold it back anymore is an example of a sentence fragment because itdoes not contain any noun or pronoun to depict whom the author isreferring to.
Asentence has two essential components, which include the subject andverb. Subject and predicate sentences can stand on their own becausethey still have meanings. A predicate can have a verb and complementbit while the subject has the pronoun. The subject and predicatecould be independent clauses that can create meaningful, engaging andcomplex sentences. Sentence fragments lack a complete view, and theylack a subject, they lack an action, and they are dependent clausesthat cannot stand on their own.
Theauthors of the song have done an excellent job in writing of thesong. The song has good linguistic choices and deep meanings that arean encouragement to many people, particular the young people.Similarly, the song enlightens parents and guardians, as well theyshould be careful and pay a close attention to their youthfuldaughters. The meaning of the clearly touches on what is affectingmany people in the society, and it is a great platform for the authorto encourage the depressed and fearful that they still have a reasonfor living.
