Professionalwriting refers to a written communication style used in workplacesettings that permits professionals such as professors, lawyers,doctors, and businesspeople to come up with informed decisions(Hegde,2010). In the course my learning, I realized that professional writing ischaracterized by a form tone different that of written text that isregarded as artistic or literary, which typically written to convey acertain philosophical truth or just for entertainment. Therefore, theobjective of a professional writing is to deliver information to theaudience within a context of workplace environment. They are writtento particularly encourage action, persuade, instruct, and to affirmshared objectives, as well as to inform. Thus, this paper is areflection of skills that I have learned and how they will affect myfuture professional life.
Effectof High-Quality Professional Writing
High-qualityprofessional writing enhances communication between professionals inthe workplace. Consequently, good human relation is fostered aspeople have no trouble of perceiving the value and significance ofwritten communication. Professional writing involves businesswriting, technical writing and promotional writing. Whatever theexplicit document, the purpose of the professional writing is topromote positive relationships between co-workers, betweendepartments, between an organization and consumers, and between anorganization and society. Therefore, the work of professional writeris to provide writing that meets the needs of audience both withinand outside a company. All high-quality professional writings areaimed to effect change through both informative and persuasivestrategies (MacDonald,2010).

Examplesof professional writing include but not restricted to businesswriting, technical writing and promotional writing. In businesswriting, all business operations are planned, envisioned, analyzedand implemented in some kind of written word such as reports,letters, email, memo, or any other business document that conveysbusiness message (Hegde,2010).Proposals are also form of business writing that is very significantin the evaluation and implementation of business projects. Technicalwriting offers a great career development for the students who aremuch skilled in communications. One common characteristic ofprofessionals is that they are capable of writing technicalinformation in the manner in which their targeted audience cancomprehend and use with much ease. Promotional writing is a form ofprofessional writing that involves selling of a product or servicesthrough raising awareness, arousing curiosity and interest. Itincludes but not restricted to brochures, video scripts, pressreleases, manuals, ads, catalogs, website content, and direct mail,as well as direct mail (Johnet al., 2013).
Reflectionon changes of my Professional Writing Style
Inthe course of developing my professional writing skills, I haverealized that my writing style involves what I actually expressmyself rather than what I say. I also realized that the changes of myprofessional writing style have affected the tone of communicationthat gives my readers an indication of what I am thinking or feeling.Most significantly, I have learned to incorporate positive languagewhile communicating messages in the most courteous manner. Even whenI am communicating negative news, I have learned to word my messagepositively. This approach towards professional writing has a greatimpact on the manner in which message is received by the targetaudience (Glenn& Gray, 2013).
Additionally,I have learned to use the “you” view where applicable in myprofessional writing style. The “you” view involves a writingstyle where the audience needs are first emphasized, rather than myneeds as a writer. This style can be used in business professionalwriting as smart business strategy since it is the best way toprovide customer service. I have noticed that writer-focusedcommunication messages are self-centered, whereas theaudience-oriented messages as written with “you” view soundprofessional and concerned. For the purpose of protecting our money,our bank is requesting your identification when depositing largecheques. This is an example of a writer-focused communicationmessage. In the same message would be, ‘so as to protect yourmoney, we are requesting your identification when depositing largecheques. This style of professional writing is very useful inmarketing (Glenn& Gray, 2013).
Moreover,I have realized that my professional writing style has changedsignificantly in terms of using inclusive language. As a courtesy toaudience, professional writers strive to use inclusive language. Ihave also learned to avoid job titles that exclude some people suchas mailman, waitress, fireman, and policeman, instead of mailcarrier, server, fire fighter, and police officer respectively. Theuse of inclusive language does not segregate people in terms ofgender, age and marital status, and they determine the effectivenessof professional writing. Equally significantly, I have learnedcomprehensive use of both passive and active voice dependingaccording to degree to which I want to draw attention. The doer ofthe action is the subject in the active voice, which in the passivevoice subject is acted upon. These are specific changes I havenoticed in my professional writing style (Johnet al., 2013).
Inconclusion, professional writing is way through which professionalscommunicate with each other in the workplace settings. Examples ofthe professional writing include but not restricted business writing,technical writing and promotional writing. Throughout my learningcourse I have realized changes in my professional writing styles suchas the use of inclusive and courteous language, as well as “you”view characteristic. Therefore, high-quality professional writing hasgreat impact on students in their future professional careers interms of communication and public relations.
