Vark Analysis




Informationgathering involves the use of various primary and secondary sources.Information is said to be primary if the sources are first-hand innature. First-hand information may involve making the observation onan event. Secondary information is obtained from secondary sourcessuch as reading from books. Also, extracting information from thelibrary is a secondary source of information (Vella 2007). Primaryinformation does not contain elements of bias as it is first hand innature. Secondary information may be distorted and thus contain a lotof biases. In carrying out research for decision making, theinformation used should be accurate. The information should have ahigh degree of reliance so as to give quality results. Learning is afunction of several components in the life of an individual learner(Weltman 2007).

Thereare those people who portray only visual, aural, read/write orkinesthetic models. In any case, the learning strategy adopted by anindividual affects their way of doing things. For instance, a studentwho has a combination of both visual and read/write will portray ahigh sense of observation and noting down points (Vella 2007). On theother hand, a student with a kinesthetic model will be inclined tothe direction of practicability of doing things. This mostly happensto students in the fields of both human and applied sciences.Additionally, another group of students might portray an aural modelof learning as their strategy. This mainly involves listening to thesound or music and learning from them. It mainly affects the studentsin the field of social sciences especially music department (Weltman2007). Moreover, a high percentage of learners will portray amultimodal learning strategy. This group of learners highly benefitfrom this strategy as their scores will always above the average.This essay is meant to analyze the vark analysis with an inclinationon multimodal learning strategy.

Multimodallearning strategy

Thisis a scenario whereby the learner has multiple preferences in theVark analysis concept. In the given case, the learner has thefollowing scores visual 13, aural 10, read/write 3 and kinesthetic15. There is a high preference on kinesthetic which are the practicalcomponent model in the study. The learner is inclined on the twocomponents of visual and kinesthetic meaning that observation andapplying the results are the key strategies (Alcina 2011).Thiscombination goes hand on hand with the field of study of the learnerwhich is health. It is an area whereby one is supposed to be a keenobserver and also involves carrying many practical (Vella 2007).

Additionally,a score of 15 in kinesthetic means that the learner prefers thepractical bits of a project to read and write. It is notable thatthis component of learning has several advantages to the learner ascompared to the rest of the strategies. Some of the advantagesaccrued to this strategy are as follows:

  • The learner is able to grasp the concepts easily.

  • Learner is able to interact with the real life situations.

  • There is an emphasis on practice which improves the experience of the learner.

Onthe other hand, a score of 13 in the visual component means that thelearner is an observant character. The learner is able to makedecisions from observations made. This enhances the level ofunderstanding of the learner to new concepts. The learner is also ina position to relate the observed situation to a real life eventthrough application of kinesthetic.

Preferredlearning style

Thepreferred learning style is a combination of visual and kinestheticmodels. These two components are attributed to the field of studythat the learner is admitted. Health department calls for a keenobserver and at the same time a practical person. Laboratoryinvolves making observations of whatever is happening (Alcina 2011).The individual is supposed to make keen and precise observations ofevery step in the practical. Also, an individual is supposed to carryout actual practical to be equipped with the necessary skills. Thelearner is inclined to both visual and hands components of the study.These two areas are very specific in the field of health. The modelis supported further by the inclusion of aural component of the study(Jackson 2011).

Although,the learner scores only 10 in the aural component, it is important inthe field of health. This is explained by the scenario whereby thelearner has to listen to the various sounds made in the practicalroom. The learner is supposed to listen carefully to the sounds madeby any components of practical such as chemical reactions. Thecombination of three models of learning will facilitate theperformance and understanding of the learning system (Gardner 2008).

Assessmentof the preferred strategies to the identified strategies

Thescenario in the case given is a combination of three models oflearning, which are visual, kinesthetic and aural. The preferredstrategies of the learner correlate to the identified strategies inVark analysis (Gardner 2008). There is a relationship between theobserved strategies and the one applied by the learner. However, apositive inclination to kinesthetic is observed with a score of 15 ascompared to the rest of the models. This is supported by the materialfacts of the area of study. A health learner or practitioner for thatmatter is someone who is always on the practicability of real lifesituations (Jackson 2011).

Analysisof the effects of the strategies to teaching and learning scenarios

Amultimodal strategy of teaching is important for the teacher in theirprofession. This is so because there are instances whereby one wouldbe required to use charts or diagrams to explain a given scenario,thereby applying the visual component of learning/teaching (Alcina2011). Another scenario is the involvement of real life situationswhereby the teacher would be expected to use the kinesthetic model oflearning/teaching. This is in order to emphasize on a given situationto the learners. Another instance is whereby a teacher is expected toread/write some notes for the students on the teaching board. Thiswill call for the application of the write/read model ofteachings/learning. Therefore, it is paramount for a teacher to havethe multimodal strategy at their disposal in their profession. Ateacher’s awareness to the various teaching/learning models willenhance an easy interaction with the learners (Gardner 2008).

Inthe case of learners, a multimodal strategy of learning is veryparamount for easy understanding. There are instances which will allfor a learner to be inclined to the kinesthetic model of learningespecially in the study of human sciences (Alcina 2011). Anotherscenario will involve the learner applying a combination of visualand read/write. All these strategies will be determined by thesituation at hand and also the specific individual learners’perception. Awareness of these models to a learner will help inimproving the understanding levels. Also, it will ease the learningsystem which might prove to be a tasking event to the learner (Vella2007).

Ina nutshell, Vark analysis will enhance the perception of the variousgroups towards learning and teaching. To the teachers, it willimprove their teaching skills and at the same time help them toidentify learners’ needs. On the other hand, learners will be ableto relate the learning sessions with real life situations through thehelp of relevant models.
